A Weekend in Walla Walla - Part One: Where to Stay

You guys... Walla Walla is a hidden treasure in Washington state. It's basically the Napa Valley of Washington but way less expensive! We spent our 10 year anniversary here and I want to tell you all about where to stay, where to go wine tasting and where to eat because a well planned trip can work out just perfectly! This post will be all about where to stay and additional posts will tell you where to eat and where to drink, so make sure you check them out!

I will say, the first time we went to Walla Walla, COVID was not a thing. So our experiences are a bit different on both trips, but I'm going to give you a run down of what to expect in the "new normal."

Most places require a reservation and I was allowing about 2 hours in between each to allow for tasting, revisiting (or drinking a glass), time to travel between locations and possibly stop for a quick snack. When doing this, I left the late afternoon open before dinner so we had a little free time to take a drive or go back to our inn to rehydrate and take a nap (which totally happened and we always woke up just as we needed to leave for our dinner reservations).

Our first trip to Walla Walla included a stay at the Quality Inn because we were just looking for the least expensive option to save a bit of money. This time around, I wanted something a little more special and because of COVID, just a little more upscale so that I felt really good about their cleaning/sanitizing practices. While looking, I found many places throughout town that fit what I was looking for, but some were just so expensive that I couldn't justify it. Then I stumbled upon the cutest little inn, The Inn at Blackberry Creek. If I have any Gilmore Girls fans out there reading this, I honestly felt like I was going to be greeted by Lorelai and that Sookie would be making my breakfast. It was so dreamy and almost as if I was driving up to the Dragonfly Inn.

Not only was it tucked back a bit from the road, but it was quiet and there are only a few rooms so you are sure not to be stuck in crowds of people during your stay if that concerns you.

It was beautifully landscaped, with a ton of property off the back where you could roam around a bit, bring a bottle of wine and sit down and the little creek in the back had the perfect amount of water noise.

I seriously cannot even believe this little inn exists in Walla Walla and it's honestly going to become my favorite place to stay when we are in town.

The lady who owns it hires a private chef to cook breakfast for guests who want it in the morning. You just have to write your name on the chalkboard the night before by 5pm so they know who will be dining. There's a small menu to choose from, but if you mention something you love (like eggs benedict) they are sweet enough to make sure they have the ingredients at some point during your stay and make it for you!

The best part... It's included in your room rate! This is one of my best tips when traveling. Look for accommodations that include breakfast in your stay and that's one less meal you need to worry about spending money on or planning for!

Our room was so special and just had all the right touches, finishes and details that you wont find in a hotel. You can tell the owner really cares about details.

The bed and pillows were comfy, the bathroom was super clean and looked like it had been recently upgraded and the room was air conditioned. She provides a small fridge, robes and really high quality toiletries. I cannot sleep without white noise and was happy to see she even stored a small fan in the closet so I could have my white noise to sleep! Anyone else like that? Or just me? :) I know it probably really irritates people but silence is just too quiet.

The best part about our room tho, was this private patio with a 2 person hot tub. I called ahead and asked for a "date night" basket to be added upon arrival. It included fruit, crackers, cheese and a blackberry cheesecake. Upon arrival we ran to the store to get a few additions (wine, a baguette and some seasoned olive oil) and we ate our dinner on the patio!

The hot tub was the perfect way to relax and end the night! Only two of their rooms have this and it's a major plus considering most pools and spas at hotels are closed due to COVID.

We even had our breakfast delivered the next morning in a basket with coffee and juice and enjoyed it on the patio! It was the most delicious quiche I had ever had and it was a nice way to kick off the day before heading out for some wine.

While we hated to say goodbye to this beautiful inn, we know we will be back!

XOXO,

Rachel
